David Slade to Direct Vampire Horror Flick ‘The Last Voyage Of The Demeter’

I’m going to go ahead and assume that director David Slade is crazy in love with vampires since he has filmed two vampire flicks in a row and is now working on a third – ” The Last Voyage of the Demeter .” Slade, who directed the vampire horror ” 30 Days of Night ” and the vampire bore ” Twilight Saga: Eclipse ,” is set to tackle the bloodthirsty genre again with Phoenix Pictures’ ” The Last Voyage of the Demeter ,” a movie that’s been 10 years in the making. I’m sure you all recognize the name “Demeter” for it was the name of the ship in Bram Stoker’s legendary novel “ Dracula .” The very ship Dracula boarded to cross the seas from Transylvania to London, which is what this upcoming film is about.

Summit Entertainment’s plans for its Twilight Saga threequel, Eclipse , just got a lot bigger with the announcement that upon its release next June 30th, the film will be shown in Imax theatres across the country. According to The Hollywood Reporter Imax Filmed Entertainment president Greg Foster said the specialty circuit is “poised to take advantage of the rapidly growing fan base devoted to this dynamic, cutting edge series.” “‘Twilight’ moviegoers will have a whole new way to experience this next installment of the series, with the enhanced image and sound quality of the Imax experience,” added Summit distribution topper Richie Fay said.

Not sure how we missed this story earlier in the week, but it did break the day after the Reaper Awards , so you can’t blame us for moving a little slowly. In any event, it looks like The Twilight Saga: Eclipse has found its Lucy, Canadian actress Kirsten Prout. Bloody Disgusting got the early word on Prout’s selection, mentioning her past roles as Amanda in the TV series “Kyle XY” and Elektra ‘s ward Abby.

New Moon , the second installment in The Twilight Saga , looks to be putting its bloodsuckers on the back-burner and focusing on the wolf pack, which should bode well for expanding its fanbase to those who prefer lycans over vamps. And if the newly released photo of Tinsel Korey as Emily Young, who is like “a second mother to the pack”, is any indication, those wolves have some pretty nasty claws! Twilight Lexicon caught up with Korey at her first Twilight Convention in Chicago this weekend, where she displayed the following promotional shot, which gives a good indication of how realistic her character’s scarred face will look in the film

Yup, more casting news for the forthcoming Twilight threequel as Eclipse has found its Maria. Producers on Summit’s third Twilight pic have cast Catalina Sandino Moreno, best-known for playing the title character in the indie drama Maria Full of Grace , to play the vampire character of Maria. She will take on the role of a woman who tries to create a newborn army of vampires, recruiting the Confederate soldier Jasper to her cause

Now that Twilight sequel New Moon is edging closer to its November release date, eyes are turning to the third film, Eclipse , which begins lensing in Vancouver in just a few more days. Casting updates have been coming in fast and furious for the new installment helmed by David Slade, including this latest bit on who would be portraying the vampire Maria.
