With this being the weekend that the first half of the final installment in The Twilight Saga opens in theaters and the immortal love story of Edward and Bella culminates with marriage, rough sex, a half-breed baby, and infinity as vampire man and wife, it just seemed appropriate I pick a b-movie ditty titled “All Eternity Blues” about vampires wanting out of their centuries old marriage. Monster Mash: The Movie (aka Frankenstein Sings ) is a 1995 horror musical comedy based on a 1967 stage play titled I’m Sorry the Bridge is Out, You’ll Have to Spend the Night that was co-written by Bobby “Boris” Pickett, whom you no doubt recall as the singer immortalized by his smash hit “Monster Mash”. The vampire comedy Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Undead is finally available on DVD !� I’ve been waiting to see this film since I first shared its trailer in 2008, so I’m thrilled to have it at the top of my Netflix queue right now. To celebrate, I’m featuring both the Season 2 trailer and the Florence and the Machine song that appears on it: “Howl.” “Howl” hails from the British singer’s 2009 album, Lungs . What better song to kick off a show about a vampire, a werewolf, and a ghost than one that includes lyrics like “Drag my teeth across your chest to taste your beating heart”?� Fanged beasties of all sorts should enjoy music such as that–even ones who share flats with roomies.

Music Monday: I BLEED by The Pixies

I’m heading back to 1989 for today’s featured song: “I Bleed” by the Pixies.� It hails from their album Doolittle , which went gold in 1995 and appeared in Rolling Stone ‘s 500 Greatest Albums of All Time .� As often seems to be the case with vampire songs, “I Bleed” never gained as much fame as other songs on the album, especially in comparison to the Pixies’s hit ” Here Comes Your Man .”� But that certainly doesn’t mean the dark, emotional tune isn’t worth a listen.�

I haven’t devoted too many Music Mondays to the vampire’s furry cousins, werewolves, but the soundtrack to The Wolfman will be released February 23, so I figured now would be a good time to do so.� Danny Elfman is the man behind The Wolfman ‘s musical score. I have a little more time to set up a Music Monday today instead of tomorrow, and with the release of Daybreakers over the weekend, it seemed fitting to spotlight the vampire thriller’s soundtrack. I’m including a video of Placebo ‘s rendition of “Running Up That Hill,” featured in the Daybreakers trailer (it was originally a Kate Bush song). Here’s another musical offering from Jordan Galland’s dark comedy Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Undead : The Rosen-dance Video. As explained at Undead News , “A DJ known as Dancelvania put a beat under [the character] Theo Horace’s dialogue where he teaches the vampire slave girls to turn humans into vampires.” I’ve been long awaiting this particular vampire film’s arrival at a theater near me, but, thankfully, they continue to provide Music Monday opportunities to keep me entertained in the meantime

Today I’m spotlighting Sean Lennon ‘s beautiful and creative score for Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Undead , a film I’ve been looking forward to seeing for ages. The movie seems to still be making its rounds on the festival circuit, but the soundtrack now has a release date of October 28 in the US

G Tom Mac , the original creator of “Cry Little Sister”–the theme song from The Lost Boys –has come out with a True Blood -style version of the song. The video isn’t yet available, but he’s released an audio clip that definitely transports the music from a Northern California boardwalk to the heart of Louisiana.

I’m so behind on blogging and was going to skip a Music Monday this week, but I’ve decided to play a little something that ties in with both my newest article, ” Upcoming Vampire and Werewolf Movies ,” and my True Blood poll that just ended. I’m currently putting together a literary panel for the Vampire Film Series and Festival, working on a manuscript that I hope to send my agent this fall, and taking care of my two kids, who are home for the summer.

Great Vampire Event in LA!

The band Crush is coming out with a vampire film called ” Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell ” based on the novel of the same name. The event is to promote the band & the movie/novel and will feature a performance by Crush, a burlesque dancer (Shelby”Belfast” Jones) and DJ Satoki. They are also having a best dressed vampire contest where the winner will win a cameo in the film
