Director Albert Pyun dropped us a line with an update on Cyborg: Rise of the Slingers (formerly Red Moon ) noting that he’s leaving the sword and sorcery elements behind and instead will be adapting the loose prequel to his 1989 Jean-Claude Van Damme vehicle Cyborg into the steampunk universe. He also included the film’s revised artwork by Rob E. Brown.

Adrienne Barbeau Reminds Us that Love Bites!

A lot of actors try their hand at other crafts – singing, painting, writing – but hands down one of the most successful has been Adrienne Barbeau, who, along with penning her autobiography, There Are Worse Things I Could Do (review here) , also wrote one of the decade’s best vampire novels, Vampyres of Hollywood (review here) . Luckily for us, a sequel to Vampyres , entitled Love Bites , is hitting store shelves on August 31st! Synopsis : With her customary wit and dead-on satire, Barbeau skewers Hollywood and vamp lit alike, casting the paparazzi as werewolves and certain Hollywood “monsters” as the genuine article.

Underworld 4 Release Date Pushed to January 2012

So it appears things aren’t coming together as quickly as hoped for the latest Underworld installment as its release date has just been pushed back from September 23, 2011, to January 20, 2012. Word of the date change came from Box Office Mojo , which also has the Sony/Screen Gems flick listed as being in 3D.

Summit Entertainment’s plans for its Twilight Saga threequel, Eclipse , just got a lot bigger with the announcement that upon its release next June 30th, the film will be shown in Imax theatres across the country. According to The Hollywood Reporter Imax Filmed Entertainment president Greg Foster said the specialty circuit is “poised to take advantage of the rapidly growing fan base devoted to this dynamic, cutting edge series.” “‘Twilight’ moviegoers will have a whole new way to experience this next installment of the series, with the enhanced image and sound quality of the Imax experience,” added Summit distribution topper Richie Fay said.

This scribe (pictured right) just got in from a whirlwind vist from the set of 30 days of Night: Dark Days , which is currently shooting day 13 of 25 in Vancouver, Canada, and while I can’t spill much yet (although blood was spilled there gratuituously), I can give you an update on casting. Joining the previously announced Kiele ( A Perfect Getaway ) Sanchez (taking over the ‘Stella’ role previously played by Melissa George in the original 30 Days of Night ), Mia (Depalma’s The Black Dahlia ) Kirschner, Rhys (“Entourage”) Coiro, Doira ( Night of the Demons ) Baird and Harold (“Lost”) Perrineau are Troy ( A Marine Story ) Ruptash as Agent Norris, Jackson Berlin, John De Santis, Marco Sorian and Katherine ( Ginger Snaps , “Supernatural”) Isabelle, whose scene Dread witnessed was rather disquieting (and I mean that in the best of ways – director Ben Ketai is throwing down with this one). Moments after the report came in that actors Mia Kirshner, Diora Baird, Rhys Coiro, Harold Perrineau, and Monique Ganderton had joined the cast of 30 Days of Night: Dark Days (the follow-up to 2007′s vamp thrill-ride 30 Days of Night ), the series’ writer and producer Steve Niles called this scribe to confirm the news (we held off on running this until Sony signed off) and also to provide us details on the flick’s plot, shooting schedule, and more. [ Click here for the full casting breakdown, which came courtesy of Bloody Disgusting .] “ I actually co-wrote the sequel with Ben (Ketai), ” said Niles, correcting the leak, “ who’s also directing. ” The flick, which is slated as a direct-to-DVD release and began shooting in Vancouver, Canada (standing in for Los Angeles) on October 20th, is the cinematic incarnation of the comic Dark Days, said Niles, and is being set up as Part Two of a 30 Days of Night trilogy

Not sure how we missed this story earlier in the week, but it did break the day after the Reaper Awards , so you can’t blame us for moving a little slowly. In any event, it looks like The Twilight Saga: Eclipse has found its Lucy, Canadian actress Kirsten Prout. Bloody Disgusting got the early word on Prout’s selection, mentioning her past roles as Amanda in the TV series “Kyle XY” and Elektra ‘s ward Abby.

Now that Twilight sequel New Moon is edging closer to its November release date, eyes are turning to the third film, Eclipse , which begins lensing in Vancouver in just a few more days. Casting updates have been coming in fast and furious for the new installment helmed by David Slade, including this latest bit on who would be portraying the vampire Maria. Per THR’s Risky Biz Blog , Catalina Sandino Moreno, who was nominated for an Oscar for her role in Maria Full of Grace and also appeared in Steven Soderbergh’s epic Che , has been tapped to portray yet another Maria, described as a woman who tries to create a newborn army of vampires, recruiting the Confederate soldier Jasper (Jackson Rathbone) to her cause.

If you’ve seen the Viking/Sci-Fi/Monster mash-up Outlander (review here) , a young actor by the name of Jack Huston might have caught your eye. He has since parlayed that experience into a regular part in the upcoming ABC series “Eastwick,” and now his name recognition is about to go through the roof since he’s been signed to appear in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse . According to THR , Huston will play Royce King II, a human that lived during the Great Depression.

Underworld 4 Moving Toward Pre-Production

Potential plotlines for a fourth installment in the Underworld franchise have been floating around since January, 2008, when the head of Lakeshore said confidently Underworld 4 “would carry on where Kate [Beckinsale] and Scott Speedman left off after 2.″ Now that Sony Screen Gems has given the project the green light, we’ll see if he was telling the truth.
